ONGC
About
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is India's largest crude oil and natural gas company and a Maharatna PSU, contributing nearly 70 percent of India's domestic crude oil production. ONGC offers trade apprenticeships in drilling, instrumentation, mechanical maintenance, electrical engineering, and petroleum engineering at its onshore and offshore operations across India. Apprentices work at major ONGC sites including Mumbai High, Krishna Godavari Basin, Assam, and Gujarat fields, gaining exposure to upstream oil and gas operations that are critical to India's energy security. The programmes are highly competitive and suit engineering graduates and diploma holders targeting long-term careers in oil and gas, petroleum services, or PSU sector employment.

Apprenticeships at ONGC
Trade Apprentice - Drilling Operations
at ONGC
Learn oil and gas drilling operations at ONGC fields including rig operations, well completion, formation evaluation, and petroleum production techniques in both onshore and offshore environments. The role provides direct exposure to drilling operations at sites like Mumbai High, Krishna Godavari Basin, Cambay Basin, and Assam fields, where apprentices work alongside drilling engineers, geologists, and mud engineers. The work covers rig safety procedures, well control techniques, drilling fluid management, mud logging, and the operation of equipment that costs hundreds of crores. ONGC apprenticeships are highly competitive given the prestige and pay associated with PSU petroleum careers, and successful apprentices often gain advantage in subsequent ONGC recruitment for full-time engineering positions through GATE-based selection.
Technician Apprentice - Petroleum Engineering
at ONGC
Work with ONGC petroleum engineers on reservoir analysis, production optimisation, well testing, and enhanced oil recovery techniques applied to India's domestic oil and gas fields. The role covers interpretation of well log data, pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) analysis, decline curve analysis, and the use of reservoir simulation software to predict production over time. Apprentices learn the practical engineering principles required to maximise hydrocarbon recovery from existing fields, reduce production costs, and extend field life. The skills developed are highly valued not just at ONGC but across the wider Indian and global oil and gas industry, including service companies like Schlumberger, Halliburton, Reliance Industries, and Oil India Limited.
